Shchuchin District occupies over 1.9 thousand square meters. km. or 7.6% of the total area of the Grodno region. About 36.6% or 69.8 thousand hectares of the territory is occupied by forests, agricultural land – 100.1 thousand hectares or 52.5%. In the structure of land use over the past 20 years, there has been a decrease in the area of agricultural enterprises, an increase in the area of forestry enterprises, an increase in the area of territories for nature protection, recreational, historical and cultural purposes and common lands in settlements.
On the territory of the district there are 30 lakes and ponds (area 2.9 thousand hectares), 144 rivers and streams with a length of 861.4 km. The results of observations of the state of rivers and reservoirs indicate that the quality of surface waters in recent years has remained stable and tends to improve. The total area of water protection zones is 75.7 thousand hectares, including the area of water protection zones of small rivers 69.5 thousand hectares. The area of coastal rivers and reservoirs is 7.3 thousand hectares. Mineral resources include lime, sand, peat and clay.
